White After Labor Day?

So what IS the deal with wearing white after Labor Day? is it just no more white shoes? or is all white across the board a no-no (clothes, shoes, accessories, etc)?

Many thanks!!
Carrie

Dear Carrie,
Frankly, we wouldn't care to live in a society that dictated any prescriptions around the wearing of white accessories. The rule is this: No white shoes or white pants/skirts in the daytime after Labor Day. (Dressy evening events are in their own special category, like weddings and punk rock.)

The real thing to avoid is the wearing of summer clothes in the fall or winter. But if you can find white pants in a properly warm fabric, then they are meant for after Labor Day.

Here's a question: If a woman, made invisible by wearing all white in a driving snow storm, cries out, does she really make a sound?

Yrs,
J

The no white after Labor Day rule is so old fashioned. But white shoes are always dorky, even in summer.
